None of us have actually been there, Not like you.” “Listen to the tales as we all rationalize,įeigning all the trials and the tribulations. People brag and boast about Judgement day, and believe they will “rise to the height of our halo.” “Boast about the day when the rivers overrun, People read the Bible and pretend and dream that we are following in the footsteps of the Lord. This is my personal dissection of the meaning of the song’s lyrics: The song is about his deep love and admiration for his mother. He reveres her as more of a personal savior than any God could be. Therefore, he respects his mother exponentially for this. I think he is telling a story about how he feels Christ had abandoned her in a devastating time in her life, but she still always prayed and never lost faith when most people would. It is important to note that Maynard is not Christian or affiliated with any other religion. “10,000 Days (Wings Pt.2)” is Maynard’s attempt of articulating this circumstance. While she was paralyzed, Judith was known for her remarkable and unwavering faith as a devout Catholic. Judith was paralyzed for 27 years or approximately 10,000 days. Judith suffered paralyzing cerebral aneurysm when Maynard was eleven years old, and her paralysis served as a form of his creative works through multiple albums and different bands. The song and the album are a tribute Maynard James Keenan’s mother, Judith Marie Keenan.
Personally, I feel the song that captures the atmosphere and meaning of the album perfectly is a song called “10,000 Days (Wings Pt.2)”. The album name is very much a summary of what the album’s deeper meanings are about. Tool’s most recent album was 10,000 Days, which is a perfect example that portrays how art and vague lyrical meanings tie into their music. Although I may not personally agree with the views of the band, I can not help but be intrigued by their ability to create such hypnotic music. Tool is a very unique and industry defying group that is a perfect example of what many people call “art rock” the band incorporates visual art to enhance their music, uses very vague and open lyrics, and is characterized by relatively long and complex album releases. The two most well-known members of the band is lead singer Maynard James Keenan and one of the greatest drummers of all time Danny Carey.
A few other things have also been rearranged into what is now hopefully their permanent places.I have been a long time fan of Tool, a well-known progressive metal band formed in 1990 in Los Angeles, California. If you’re wondering where the previous FAQ News posts went, don’t worry – they are still here, but have been archived in their own separate page now. Its been 1 year! The TOOL FAQ has now officially traveled around the Sun for 365 days – 370, actually, but who’s counting? I actually wanted to wish MJK a happy birthday before the FAQ’s own, and I also wanted to give the FAQ an entirely new look first, but here it is! That’s one year down, but hopefully many many more to come.
It’s hard to believe it has been 15 years now, but on this day in 2006, TOOL released 10,000 Days. That’s right… Lateralus turned 20 years old today. “Freighted with a prodigious sense of musicality and lyrics with a profound sense of spiritual authority, Lateralus has transfixed successive generations of rock fans ever since it came into the world on May 15, 2001.” – Kerrang! Two years ago today, after a 13 year wait, TOOL finally got around to releasing more music upon the world with the album, Fear Inoculum.
It’s been a long while, too long actually, since I’ve had enough time to update the FAQ. On this day in 1996, Zoo Entertainment released TOOL’s breakout album, Ænima, on vinyl a couple weeks before the official 1 October release. Happy 50th birthday to our favorite bass player, Justin Chancellor!Īlthough it may seem like a lifetime ago for many of us, twenty-five years ago TOOL officially released (on CD and tape, as it were) their eponymous sophomore album, Ænima.
